Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal in Agra, India - "the epitome of love", is a monument of immeasurable beauty. One of the Seven Wonders of the World, is a magnificent monument that it is beyond the scope of words. The thoughts that come into the mind while watching the Taj Mahal of Agra is not just its phenomenal beauty, but the immense love which was the reason behind its construction. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan got this monument constructed in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, with whom he fell in love at the first sight. The very first sight of the Taj Mahal, the epitome of love and romance leaves one mesmerized.

Standing majestically on the banks of River Yamuna, the Taj Mahal is synonymous with love and romance. It is believed that the name "Taj Mahal" was derived from the name of Shah Jahan wife Mumtaz Mahal and means "Crown Palace". The purity of the white marble, the exquisite ornamentation, precious gemstones used and its picturesque location, all make Taj Mahal travel gain a place amongst the most popular ones. The love behind this outstanding monument is what has given a life to this monument.

 

India Gate

India Gate is the pride of Delhi. An imposing structure, the gate was built in memory to the of the 90,000 Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World War I. Situated at the at the end of Rajpath, the India Gate is 42 meters high and is a popular as a relaxation area during the summer evenings and a popular picnic spot during winter. Initially called All India War Memorial, the gate was designed and built by Lutyens who is also credited with the designing of New Delhi, the capital of India.  

During the night, India gate is dazzled by floodlit and the fountains nearby are lit up with colored lights. The names of all the soldiers who died during the World War I are inscribed on the walls of the Gate. Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame, burns 24 hours. This was lit to pay home to the soldiers who were killed during the Indo-Pak war in 1971.

 

Qutab Minar

Qutab Minar is one of the most visited places in Delhi. The unique architectural structure of the monument attracts many visitors from all across the world. The construction of Qutab Minar began in the 12th century and it was completed in the 13th century. Beautiful calligraphy of the magnificent tower adorns the adjacent edifices. The Minar rises over 230 feet and can be ascended by a circular stairway for a breathtaking view.

The structure of this highest tower in India is built in red and buff sandstone. There are numerous inscriptions in Arabic and Nagari characters in different places of the Minar, which reveal the history of Qutb-ud-din Aibak. The Qutab Minar consists of a rectangular courtyard enclosed by cloisters, erected with the carved columns and architectural members of 27 Hindu and Jain temples, which were demolished by Qutbu'd-Din Aibak.

 

Red Fort

Built by Shah Jahan, the Red Fort served as the palace for Shahjahanabad, which replaced Agra as the new capital of the Mughal Empire. Shahjahanabad forms the area corresponding to the walled city of Old Delhi.  The Red Fort is the standing testimony to the magnificent power and pomp of the Mughal emperors. The construction of Red Fort was begun in 1639 and completed in 1648. The fort is peaceful retreat from the noise and chaos outside it. The Lahori Gate is the main gate of the Red Fort and attracts a multitude of people on the Independence Day of India.

 

Akshardham Temple

Tour the monumental Akshardham Temple Complex in Delhi, India and explore an amazing world of Indian culture ornate with 20, 000 statues, floral motifs, arches and exquisitely carved pillars.

The magnificent temple in Delhi has been constructed under the patronage of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) and was inaugurated on November 7, 2005. The temple complex in the national capital promises a unique glimpse of the Hindu religion and Indian culture.

The Akshardham temple complex has been built on the banks of the serene River Yamuna and lies over a sprawling 100 acres of lush manicured lawns adorned with water fountains and carved pavilions. An IMAX theatre, a Swaminarayan temple and an elaborate musical fountain accessorize the massive Akshardham temple complex in Delhi, India. The architectural style is an imitation of the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.

The main monument at the Akshardham temple in Delhi is about 141-foot high and houses a lovely statue of Lord Swaminarayan.

Humayun’s Tomb

One of the most spectacular Mughal buildings, Humayun's tomb was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1993. Built by Haji Begum, the widow of Humanyun, the second Mughal Emperor, the mausoleum is known to the precursor of world famous Taj Mahal. Built with a cost of one and a half million rupees, the monument heralded the construction of garden-tombs on the Indian subcontinent.

Each square, in turn, is divided into smaller squares by pathways. This forms a typical Mughal garden known as charbagh. Highly developed engineering skills were employed in the working out of the fountains. Though made of red sandstone, black and yellow stone was used to give variation. Humanyun's Tomb came into the scene during the First War of Indian Independence in 1857.

The tomb stands majestically at the center of the enclosure and rises from a platform faced with a series of cells with arched openings. The complex of Humayun's Tomb contains many small monuments. Chief among them are black-and-yellow marble tomb of Humayun's wife and the tomb of Humayun's barber. Referred to as Nai Ka Gumbad, the barber's tomb is an impressive square tomb with a double-dome.

 

 

Lotus Temple

Lotus Temple is one of the remarkable architectures of Bahai faith. The temple looks like a lotus flower and is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand. The temple has no restrictions for visitors and is open to people from all religions. The place provides immaculate environment for meditation, peace and wisdom. The Bahai temple was completed in 1986. Since then the temple has received recognition from all over the world for its splendid architecture and design. Lotus Temple is among the most visited monuments in India.

The most appraising aspect of this particular architectural masterpiece is the integration of the effervescent Indian history along with the modern engineering and architecture. The temple has to its accreditation being recognized all over the world as one of the most visited edifices in the world with almost 50 million people having visited the temple since its inception in 1986.
